Who came up with the idea that the word “compete” has anything to do with “striving against” someone?!?

The word comes from the Latin com- ‘together’ + petere ‘aim at, seek.’

The true essence of the word “compete” is to strive WITH someone toward a goal, NOT against someone.

So, let’s strive together, shall we?
