About thinkArete

My Focus:
I started thinkArete.com to share my passion for life and philosophy. My focus--in the words of Aristotle--is not with things as they are, but with things as they might and ought to be.

My Mission:
I'm currently distilling the universal truths of the world's great philosophers, mystics and psychologists and sharing their wisdom via thinkArete.com. I hope to inspire people to think and to create their own philosophy of life.

The Name "thinkArete":
The classic Greek philosophers had a word for the process of self-actualizing and striving to reach your highest potential. They called it 'Areté.' (pronounced ar-uh-tay)

In fact, Areté was one of the most important values in classic Greek culture. Guys like Socrates, Plato and Aristotle taught that the meaning of life was happiness and that the way to achieve happiness was to live with areté (aka excellence, striving to reach your highest potential).

I believe that by looking at the universal truths taught by philosophers, religions, and current psychological research, we can find the keys to self-actualizing and happiness. Hence, my mission to get the world to "thinkArete."

Testimonials
“I have been looking forward to getting onto my computer each day to see what you have in store for me that day. I read two things each day. A passage from the bible and now your newsletter. I use both of them to guide and inspire me throughout the following day. In my mind, you truly are a great philosopher! Keep up the great work. Thanks,”
